Ristorante Nettuno

Dal 1929

1930s style and elegance. Opened by the Monuments and Antiquities authority of Salerno, and run ever since by the same family, it is located in the heart of the archaeological site at Paestum, opposite the Temple of Neptune. Mussolini admired the view from here, and in 1932 and ’36, Umberto I and Maria Jose of Savoy were guests, as were Starace and many fascist party officials, for the classical performances put on in the temple. Illustrious visitors include King Gustav of Sweden, Pope John Paul II when he was archbishop of Krakow, Luigi Einaudi, don Luigi Sturzo, and Ungaretti.
