The last
crotto in Como, it bears witness to the time-honoured tradition in which natural cavities in the mountains were used to preserve food and wine. In the eighteenth century it was also a home and, as the licence shows, in 1880 the Cantaluppi family turned it into an inn with its own boules court. Surrounded by centuries-old trees and beautifully restored in 1997, it still has the original brick-dressed rock ceiling, the ice-room, the nineteenth-century entrance door with antique coins set into it, and the ancient establishment above. Local cuisine revisited in great style.
