The essence of Cortina, and its buvette. At the legendary bar with its universally renowned barman, Hemingway would enjoy his Martinis and red wine, and Burton and Taylor would quarrel over glasses of vodka. The princes of Hohenzollern, Italo Balbo, the Shah of Persia and Soraya, the English mountaineer John Ball, and the painters Compton and Egger-Lienz all came here. Set up in the home of Gottardo Manaigo when he was entrusted with the staging post for mail coaches, it survived German occupation and became the Allied headquarters. Fashionable and stylish, it has precious local period furnishings. Five generations.
