Originally the Birreria Stocker, Virgilio Savini transformed it a couple of years later into the most elegant establishment in the city. It is a temple of gastronomic hospitality in Milan, and the greatest minds, such as Puccini, Mascagni, Boito, Giordano, Verdi, and Toscanini have all been at its tables, along with Marinetti, Boccioni, Callas, Chaplin, Hemingway, and Sinatra. At the centre of the Galleria, in the very heart of Milan, its classic rooms are a meeting place for the elite and for opera-goers after performances at La Scala. Here the public and leading names of the business world converge for lunch or simply for a pleasant tea too.
