Back in the Twenties, Massimo Bontempelli, a teacher at the Regio Ginnasio, used to enjoy his literary leisure hours here. Pastonchi, the poet, came to indulge his craving for the finest pastries, and here Count Petitti di Roreto, the "general of generals", triumphantly displayed his banners as liberator and then as governor of Trieste. Prince Humbert of Savoy used to stop off here before his amorous encounters. Original Art Nouveau throughout, this is the repository of the most excellent pastry traditions of Cherasco.
