Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, who were later assassinated at Sarajevo, thus sparking off the First World War, were guests here. The headquarters of the Austrian High Command on the southern front in 1915, it was the “little palace” of Karl, the last Emperor of Austria in 1916-17. King Victor Emmanuel III and Mussolini met at table here in 1935 during the great military manoeuvres in Val di Non. In a splendid Jugendstil with over 200 works by twentieth-century artists, and a bar frescoed by Bruno Goldschmitt. Secluded in a park, this is a place of style and haute cuisine.
