On August 19, 1944 the "Liberators" of Italy - Winston Churchill, General Mark Clark and officers of the Fifth Army - sat at a table in the garden of the Miramare Hotel. Senator Giovanni Spadolini, a former Italian Prime Minister favoured this particular spot because of its cultural background. Generations of painters have met here.
