The refined creations of Rinaldo Balzola, pastry chef of the Royal House of Savoy, were enjoyed by the poet and war hero Gabriele D'Annunzio and actress Eleonora Duse. In the sixties, the two most famous mass-market confectioners, Motta and Alemagna, would often visit Balzola to pick up new ideas.
