From Madonizza to Valussi and Orlandini, all the forerunners of the Risorgimento in Trieste stopped off at this historic literary establishment. The furnishings are still original, with period stuccoes and large mirrors brought from Belgium in 1830, little marble and cast iron tables, and a pendulum clock of 1839, which bears the name of the original proprietor, Tomaso Marcato, who was the first to introduce ice cream to Trieste. It was listed as a historic and artistic building in 1954.
